A person named Shariful Islam (37) was abducted from Narayanganj to Gazipur. The kidnappers beat up Shariful and sent the video to his wife and demanded a ransom of five lakh rupees.
Ratna Akhter, the wife of the abducted Shariful, said that the abductors demanded five lakh taka to meet before 8 pm on Saturday at 12 noon. The abductors asked her to come to Mauna area of Sreepur in Gazipur and take away her husband with money.
Shariful is the son of Shantu Molla of Moksedpur village in Saltha upazila of Faridpur. He works in a garment factory in Narayanganj Sadar area.
Ratna Akhter told Prothom Alo over the phone around 10:00 pm today that she went to Mauna area of Sreepur before 8:00 pm. But could not contact the kidnappers. Kidnappers often keep their phones switched off. Police are trying to rescue Shariful. Not yet recovered.
Ratna Akhter, the wife of the abducted Shariful, also said that Shariful left for Gazipur to meet a friend of his on Friday afternoon as he was off work. Then at eight o’clock in the night, she got her husband’s mobile number switched off. Later at around 10:30 pm, a person with an unknown voice called her from her husband’s mobile number. They said that illegal items were found with Shariful and demanded five lakh taka to release him. After that, the abductors talked about money by making several calls from the husband’s mobile number throughout the night. At one point, the kidnappers sent Ratna a two-and-a-half-minute video clip of Shariful being blindfolded and handcuffed. In that video, Shariful is seen being beaten.
Ratna Akhtar also said that everyone in the family started crying after seeing the video. Try to raise money. The abductors got angry when they were told that one lakh taka had been collected at around four in the morning yesterday. Today around 12 noon, the abductors called her and told her that her husband should be released with money before 8 pm.
A two-and-a-half minute video sent to the wife from the husband’s mobile number shows a man being blindfolded and handcuffed in the back seat of a car. Unidentified people are beating him with wooden sticks for a while. Taking various information from him. On the other hand, some audio clips of the kidnappers’ conversation with the abducted Shariful’s wife regarding the ransom demand have come to Prothom Alo. In one of these audio clips, the kidnappers can be heard saying, ‘You are a bad woman. Not paying. ok Myra Phalab is your husband. Then you will understand.
Ratna Akhter said that she spoke to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station over the phone. He made his complaint.
